It isn't allways like that. In Ireland if you get sick, this is what the state tells you: "In general an employee has no right under employment law in Ireland to be paid while on sick leave."
When I've arrived to Dublin, in December 2000 I have only knew something of Guinness and the Irish step dance. I had no clue at all how to get a job there. Thats why I have to say thank you to those two Hungarian guys I met in "my" hostel where my good luck took me. They helped me a lot. We went to TESCO (careers @ tesco ireland) for Scrumpy Jack. After going to a movie we went to their favourite pub, the Porter House (to get a job @ proterhouse inn, in bray, please click here).
On the way home - a bit tipsy - I found vacancy at an Italian restaurant (Pasta di Milano, where they were looking for a dishwasher...
